Natural Remedies Blog Writer Tara Lewis

Hi, My name is Tara Lewis and It’s not so long ago that I was exactly were you are right now….

…. I was searching online to find a real (practical!), Natural method to relieve my Candida Yeast infection! To add to my troubles I was also dealing with a ‘recurring Yeast Infection’. It would clear up for a while only to return weeks later . What I really wanted was a tried and tested Plan! Something I could follow easily! and…oh yes some personal help – you know what I mean, someone to give me a few pointers along the way. Seem like a tall order? After you read to the end of this short article you may be amazed, I was!

Well here’s were I got my lucky break…

…In my online searching for relief, I got so upset and frustrated at not finding any useable yeast remedy information, that I called an old friend, who I knew had been big into natural remedies and asked her advice, here is what she showed me!

Most women will tell you that at some point, they have experienced the itching, burning irritation that accompanies thrush. In fact, it’s not only women who suffer from thrush. Men can get genital thrush too, and anyone can get oral thrush. Infant often suffer with this thanks to improperly sterilized bottles and teats, and in fact, nappy rash is itself a form of thrush.

While finding natural remedies for thrush is usually the main goal if you’re suffering from any form of thrush, it’s also helpful to understand the underlying causes. That way, you can avoid having to find natural remedies for thrush altogether, and practice prevention instead.

Candida Explained

The underlying cause of thrush, and the symptoms that natural thrush remedies seek to cure, is a type of yeast called Candida. This is naturally present in everyone’s body, but there are times when an imbalance or another underlying problem causes this naturally occurring yeast to overproduce.

A Picture of Thrush – “Paints a thousand words”

Often, this overproduction of Candida yeasts is thanks to antibiotics, which kill off the good bacteria in our bodies that keep it in check, resulting in a yeast infection, however, any number of things, such as douching and other every day things can lead to a yeast infection.

Prevention Is Better Than Cure

Of course, once you have developed a case of thrush, you will need to find a cure, whether it’s an over the counter medication, or one of the natural remedies for thrush that are out there, however, as with anything else, prevention is better than cure.

Poor diet, certain medications, stress and auto immune diseases are all linked to Candida infections, and it’s important to note that if you do treat the symptoms of thrush, but not the causes, it will almost always return.

To make sure that you avoid yeast infections altogether, try to make sure that you eat healthily, look after your general health, avoid stress and have regular medical exams. That way, you’ll be able to boost your system, and might be able to avoid thrush altogether. Try eating live culture yoghurt regularly, or including other Candida fighting foods in your regular diet too.

Start With the Mildest Treatments

As with many things, treatments for thrush can do more harm than good. It’s always a good idea therefore, when you do suffer an infection, to start with the mildest forms of treatments first.

Try one of the many natural remedies for thrush out there, avoid sexual contact when you are infected, take care of your general health, and so on. If that does not work, you can try over the counter remedies, and if that still doesn’t work, then your doctor should be able to prescribe treatment.

Make sure that whatever treatment you do choose, you ensure that you continue with treatment long enough to eradicate the infection completely – rather than simply treating the symptoms.

Is Candida harmful?

Candida yeast cells are a normal component of all our bodies. It’s only when the conditions that the cells multiply out of control, you experience an ‘overgrowth of yeast cells’ and your body does what it normally does to any ‘invader’, it reacts! Itching and irritation associated with a yeast infection are your bodies natural reaction to the overgrowth of yeast cells which are causing the irritation. The trick to avoiding and treating thrush is to know the common triggers of yeast infections, you may in time get to know your own triggers, and taking action as soon as you feel the symptoms of an ‘overgrowth’.

Natural Remedies for thrush are easy to use and find. But in order to get the best from this information, grab a pen and paper and as you read, make a small list of what you plan to do today and tomorrow to gain relief. Once you have checked out the link at the bottom of this article (for those needing a supportive environment. with more info, to help successfully eradicate thrush), you will be ready to apply the knowledge and take a clear path to soothing relief!

Please note, I interchange the word ‘thrush’ with ‘Candida Albicans’ as they are basically the same thing i.e ‘Candida Albicans’ is the name of the Yeast Fungus causing the condition we call ‘thrush’.

Thrush manifests itself commonly in the mouth area. It’s usually experienced by infants, babies and breastfeeding mums, but can also effect female and male adults. If you have had white patches on your tongue that bleed easily and won’t easily wipe away then you’ve likely had thrush. The term is often swapped for the common term ‘Yeast Infection’. O.k ‘terms’ aside lets jump in…..

Although there are a variety of chemical drugs, usually in the form of anti fungal treatments, that are available for the treatment of Candida Albicans, or ‘thrush’, it’s usually better to stick with one of the natural remedies for thrush that are out there. The reason for this is that they are generally less invasive than prescription drugs, and have little or no side effects.

If you are suffering from thrush, whether oral, vaginal or any other variety, you may want to try one of the following natural remedies for thrush which have stood the test of time.

Yogurt

Live culture yogurt is one of the best known natural remedies for thrush that there are. Eating yogurt every day should help to restore the levels of ‘good’ bacteria in your body necessary to keep Candida Albicans in check. Make sure it is unsweetened yogurt as the bacteria associated with thrush feed on sugar within your body, hence the recommended reduction in sweet foods, at least until your natural defences have had a chance to get back on track

Another approach possible with yogurt is to also apply it to the affected area. The idea here is to reduce your bodies ph acid levels, creating an environment which the Candida Albicans simply don’t like and were they are no longer free to thrive. This also has an overall much needed soothing effect!

Here’s one possible approach,

Have a warm bath, fill to about the start of your belly (forget about the bubble bath and nice scents this time!), add 1-2 cups of cider apple vinegar to the water and soak yourself for a few relaxing minutes ….mmm! (O.K maybe a bit longer ….but no longer than 15 minutes as a guide)

Step out of the bath and pat dry yourself (Tip – once in your restroom, the hair dryer on a very low heat is great for a thorough air dry after a pat dry). Now apply the Yogurt to the effected area. In the case of the vagina you may apply the yogurt to a tampon and insert (this is known as a ‘yogurt douche’) or simply apply with your clean finger. Now rest, relaxing somewhere for 20 to 40 minutes, whatever suits you, before having another similar short warm bath to gently wash way the yogurt.

Repeat as necessary to gain soothing relief. This method is all about creating conditions which are good for you and bad for the out of control Yeast fungus, Candida Albicans (a key in treating the symptoms of thrush).

Although relief can be amazing when it comes, we are still only dealing with the ‘Symtoms’ of thrush. To treat a thrush infection effectively we have to tackle the ‘Cause‘ of the infection in our own body, and this will be unique to you and your own personal situation. The link at the bottom of this article leads to some of the best information I’ve found online for finding out how to permanently beat thrush.

Wormwood

The herb known as Wormwood is another of the popular natural remedies for Candida that is still in use today. It’s known to help balance the bacteria in the gut, which keep the Candida yeast present in the body regulated, and prevent them from overproducing, which would invariably lead to a yeast infection.

Clove Oil

Clove oil is an anti fungal that can be used to treat certain kinds of thrush, although it is generally very strong, and when using it as one of the natural remedies for thrush, it’s advisable to dilute it in a carrier oil, such as coconut oil. This is extra effective, since coconut oil itself is one of the lesser known ingredient from ‘Natures larder’.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Another of the tried and trusted natural remedies for thrush is apple cider vinegar. The reason for this is that the Candida yeast cannot survive in the acidic environment that the vinegar creates.

If you do use apple cider vinegar to treat thrush, make sure that you buy the raw, unfiltered variety, as it works much better than the processed varieties (try your local heath food shop).

Top tip – do NOT apply undiluted (it can sting like a nettle ‘Ouch’) that is don’t just apply it neat to the effected area but dilute it first with warm water and dab it on with a clean sponge or cotton swab. Ideally apply 1 tablespoons for each quart of warm water if applying to the effected area. Or if adding to the bath put 1-2 cups in with warm bath water.

Light and Air

It may seem too simple, but one of the best natural remedies for thrush is light and air. That’s because the fungus or yeast that causes a yeast infection love dark, damp environments.

This is why, if, for example, you have a vaginal yeast infection, you should wear light weight clothes and underwear made from natural fibers that breathe. It’s also why air is a great remedy for the yeast infection that causes nappy rash.

As you can see, there are many natural remedies for thrush. You don’t necessarily need to turn to medication to solve the problem, and with even more options out there, you should find something that will solve your particular thrush problem.

Make sure, whether you use natural remedies or any other treatment for thrush, that you also watch your diet, cut out yeast, sugar and alcohol, avoid unnecessary stress, and take good care of yourself. All of these factors can trigger or worsen a case of thrush, and it’s important to make sure that you aren’t making the problem worse unknowingly.

I’ve included the below link because so far, it represents one of the best (practical) methods to get support in effectively controlling Thrush. It’s also an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ of natural remedies for thrush, that have been shown to just outright work!

A natural approach to resolve thrush is the Sarah Summer Cure which is a great side-effect free alternative for the quick relief of your symptoms
